
Peter Heptinstall is a Consultant Biomedical Scientist at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Peter began his career working in a combined histopathology and cytology department, qualifiying first in histology. He began his involvement in cervical screening in 1988.
He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and a member of The British Society of Clinical Cytology.
Over the years, other roles have included participation in the provision of an andrology service, synovial fluid reporting, non-gynaecological cytology preparation and reporting, employment as Chief BMS for five years and as Hospital Based Programme Co-ordinator for thirteen years. As a HBPC he helped to establish new Trust policies. Peter has also been a Quality Assurance Visit team member.

- MSc Pathological Sciences – Passed with distinction at The University of Sheffield (1999)
- MSc Health and Social Care Management – Passed with merit at The University of Bradford (2013)
- Advanced Specialist Diploma in Cervical Cytopathology (2004)
- Diploma of Expert Practice in Non-Gynaecological Cytology
- Chartered Scientist
- IAC comprehensive exam (CT-IAC)
- Current HCPC registration (BS33658)
- IBMS CPD Registered – Currently working towards Diploma 13
